Katrina Kelso PhD     B. App. Sci (Speech Pathology), Master of Education,

CPSP Principal Speech-Language Pathologist

Katrina is a highly experienced Speech-Language Pathologist who has worked extensively with school age children with language, literacy and learning difficulties.  She worked in a range of school settings and community health prior to setting up her private practice in 1998 to cater specifically to the needs of school age children.

Katrina particularly enjoys working with junior primary students to “crack the code” to learn to read and spell, and with upper primary and high school students to develop their comprehension, spelling and essay writing skills.  She is also a passionate believer in advocating for the support needs of these children in the classroom, and provides consultancy services to schools.

Katrina has a particular interest in the area of reading comprehension.  She completed a Master of Education at UWA in this area, has given frequent presentations on the topic, and completed a PhD at Curtin University in 2022 which explored how to better identify and treat children with reading comprehension difficulties in the primary school years. Katrina has recently returned from sabbatical in Canada where she ran a research project examining two different interventions for weak readers.
